Sunrisers Hyderabad’s star all-rounder, Washington Sundar has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury, SRH stated on Thursday, April 27. There hasn’t been a replacement announced for the time being. “Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 due to a hamstring injury. Speedy recovery, Washi,” SRH wrote on their social media handles.

Sundar batted primarily in the lower-middle order and had a strike rate of 100 in seven games, scoring 60 runs he played in the 16th edition of the IPL. He took three wickets with the ball, all in one game, which happened to be SRH’s last game this week against the Delhi Capitals (DC).

The hamstring injury is the most recent in a line of illnesses and injuries that have continuously stopped Sundar’s cricket career over many years. He was forced to miss the second leg of the Indian Premier League in 2021 because of a finger injury, and when the season ended, a Covid-19 infection prevented him from playing in international cricket.

Washington Sundar scored 101 runs at a strike rate of 146.38 in IPL 2021

Washington did make a comeback last year with ODIs against the West Indies, but he injured his hamstring and was forced to miss the rest of the fixtures. Sundar played for the Indian side against Sri Lanka in an ODI and New Zealand in a T20I this year. The all-rounder participated in the three-match series against Australia but was not selected for the starting eleven.

Sundar had another hamstring injury just as he was on a stretch of consistency without incidents. Sundar was purchased by the SRH at INR 8.75 crore during the IPL 2022 mega auction. The other team bidding for him was the Lucknow Super Giants. In the previous season’s edition, Sundar played 9 matches and scored 101 runs at a strike rate of 146.38. He had a season-high six wickets and an 8.54 economy rate.
