The summit clash of the Indian T20 League 2022 took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad between Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Rajasthan won the toss and decided to bat first. Yashshasvi Jaiswal (22 of 16) gave them a blazing start before he was dismissed in the 4th over of the innings. The score of Rajasthan when Jaiswal was dismissed was 32 for 1 in 4 overs. After this, batting got tougher on a pitch that kept getting slower with the progress of the match. Big names in the Rajasthan batting lineup like Sanju Samson (14 of 11) and Shimron Hetmyer (11 of 12) failed to get going on the sticky wicket with spongy bounce. Jos Buttler battled out in the middle and batted till the 13th over of the innings. He scored 39 runs off 35 balls before being dismissed by Hardik Pandya. It was a decent knock given the nature of the pitch. Some handy contributions by Riyan Parag (15 of 15) and Trent Boult (11 of7) toward the end of the innings helped Rajasthan reach a fighting total of 130 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their 20 overs. Hardik Pandya bowled in a great rhythm and was the pick of the bowlers of his team with 3 wickets for 17 runs from his 4 overs.

Gujarat was rocked early in their chase as Prasidh Krishna picked up the wicket of Wriddhiman Saha 9 5 of 7) in the second over of the innings. His wicket was soon followed by the dismissal of Matthew Wade (8 of 10) in the 5th over of the innings. Gujarat was struggling at 23 for 2 at this stage. Hardik Pandya walked into bat at this stage. He joined hands with Shubman Gill and the duo stabilized the Gujarat innings. They played out the initial phase slowly and then started to accelerate as they got an idea of the conditions. While the partnership of Hardik and Gill was taking the match away from Rajasthan, Yuzvendra Chahal provided them with the important breakthrough of Hardik Pandya. This broke the 63 runs partnership and kept Rajasthan in the match. Pandya played an important knock of 34 runs off 30 balls setting the foundation for his team.

Shubman Gill and David Miller ensured that no further slip-ups occur during the chase and took their team across the line. Gujarat won the match by 7 wickets with 11 balls to spare in the match. Shubman Gill (45 of 43) and David Miller (32 of 19) remained unbeaten till the end.  Gujarat win their maiden title in their debut Indian T20 League title, while Rajasthan’s wait for their second title extends further from 14 years. The whole stadium erupted as the winning runs were scored by Gill for the home team and made the occasion a memorable.
