Manchester City and France footballer, Benjamin Mendy stands trial on Wednesday for alleged charges of rape and assault of seven women. He could well spend the rest of his career in jail gets convicted of the rape charges.

Mendy will appear at Chester Crown Court in northwest England on account of eight counts of rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of attempted rape, relating to seven young women.

Earlier, in the month of May, Mendy pleaded not guilty to nine of the 10 charges. He was then hit with a further rape count for which he is yet to appear at court. As per report, all the offenses have taken place at the 28-year-old’s home address. The horrifying incidents have reportedly taken place between October 2018 and August last year.

The City footballer stands trial before a jury along with the co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie. The latter too has pleaded not guilty to the offenses. Matturie denies eight counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault, relating to eight young women. His alleged offenses span from July 2012 to August last year.

Both of them are currently on bail. Mendy is subjected to ‘stringent conditions, which include the surrender of his passport. Upon his arrest last August, the France defender was held at Altcourse prison in Liverpool, and then a prison in Manchester. He was later released on bail in January.

As per English Law, the names of the women who are said to have been assaulted cannot be disclosed. As far as the trial is concerned, it is likely to last to six weeks. Benjamin Mendy joined the Premier League club Manchester City in the year 2017. So far in his Premier League career, he has made 75 appearances for the club. He was suspended by City after being charged by police in August.

Incidentally, Mendy’s trail is expected to last begin in the same week that the former Manchester United star football Ryan Giggs starts his on charges of attacking and coercively controlling his ex-girlfriend.
