The United Arab Emirates (UAE) T20 League is expected to start next year. The tournament will consist of six teams with Indian T20 League franchise owners such as GMR Group (owners of Delhi team) and Reliance Industries Limited (owner of Mumbai) also buying a team. Both owners have the experience of running a T20 franchise for 14 years, having been part of the Indian T20 League since its inception.

Meanwhile, the chairperson of the Dubai Sports Council, Mansoor bin Mohammed had a meeting with Manchester United Football Club co-chairperson Avram Glazer to discuss ways to raise Dubai’s profile as a global sporting hub. He revealed that the Manchester United cricket team is likely to feature in the UAE league. Notably, the Glazer family also acquired one of the six teams after going unsuccessful in an attempt to buy an ITL franchise. This means that Manchester United cricket team will play against teams owned by owners of Indian T20 League next year.

“I met with Avram Glazer, co-chairman of Manchester United, today and discussed ways to work together to further raise Dubai’s profile as a global sporting hub,” he tweeted alongside a picture of the two.

“We also discussed the UAE T20 Cricket league’s launch in January 2023 featuring Manchester United cricket team and other teams,” he added.

Last year, Glazer has said that he is excited to be part of the UAE T20 league, which promises to be a world-class event. “I am very excited to be a part of UAE T20 at its formation. UAE T20 promises to be a world-class event that will be transformative to the growth of cricket in the Emirates,” he had said.
