Mumbai pacer in the Indian T20 League, Jofra Archer has joined MI Cape Town ahead of the SA20. The inaugural season of the tournament will start on January 10 and conclude on February 11 this year. With only three days left in the tournament, Archer joined the team on January 7. The Cape Town-based team took to Twitter and uploaded a video of him joining the team.

In the video, he was heard saying “Hey, Mumbai Family. Just landed and I can’t wait to get started. Hopefully, we can win it this year,” said the 2019 ODI World Cup winner. The right-arm pacer hasn’t played a competitive game since the Three Lions’ tour of India in early 2021. During the white-ball games in the series, the Barbados-born player sustained an elbow injury.

Last year, he uploaded a video of him bowling in the nets ahead of the Indian T20 League 2022 mega player auction. However, Jofra had stated that he wouldn’t be available to play in the tournament despite putting his name in the auction. On the other hand, Mumbai still went on to sign him and said that they are building up for the future.

Meanwhile, during the SA20 player auction last year, the team signed Archer for the upcoming season alongside other players. It will be Archer’s first competitive game since February 2021.

MI Cape Town: Kagiso Rabada, Dewald Brevis (Uncapped), Rashid Khan, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Rassie van Der Dussen, Ryan Rickleton, George Linde, Beuran Hendricks, Duan Jansen, Delano Potgieter, Ziyaad Abrahams, Wesley Marshall, Olly Stone, Grant Roelofsen, Odean Smith, Waqar Salamkheil and Jofra Archer

SA20 will kick with MI Cape Town locking horns with Paarl Royals

Talking about the tournament, the first game on January 10 will be played between MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals. Their Indian T20 League teams have had a rivalry since 2018. It has majorly been dominated by Rajasthan with Mumbai losing quite a few games. In short, the Royals have been their nemesis.
