After winning the ODI and T20I series against England on their home soil, India was scheduled to start a three-match ODI series and a five-match T20I series against West Indies, from 22 July 2022. Big stars like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were given rest from the 50-over format as Shikhar Dhawan was selected for the captaincy duties in the series.

However, India dealt with a massive blow as their new vice-captain for this series, Ravindra Jadeja got ruled out of the first two matches of the series due to his knee injury. Hence, Shreyas Iyer was given the deputy duties as West Indies won the toss and elected to field first. West Indies player, Jason Holder also got ruled out after getting test positive for Covid-19.

Now, speaking of the match, India was asked to bat first and the new opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill started the proceeding in a classic manner. Both the batters managed to score some quick boundaries against the Windies as the scoreboard was running quickly. They put up 50 runs in 6.5 overs while India was at 73 runs in just 10 overs. The first wicket fell for India at a score of 119 runs in 17.4 overs. Shubman Gill departed at a score of 64 runs off 53 balls.

Throughout his innings, he played some excellent shots as his innings included six fours and two sixes. After getting an opportunity in this 50-over format, Shubman looked fully determined as he scored this fifty-plus score. Even, fans loved it also as they came up with some high-praising tweets for the player. Even, some fans started to compare him with the top Indian batter, Virat Kohli as his successor for India in the coming days. As of now, India reached 200 runs in 31.3 overs. Shikhar Dhawan is batting at 87* runs and Shreyas Iyer is batting at 42* runs.
