Ahead of their Eliminator game against Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma spoke about his experience and journey in the cash-rich league. Rohit spoke about various memorable victories and the way they build a team in the league. However, he didn’t hold back while addressing claims that MI picks only star players.

Using the success of  Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera for the five-time winners this season as an example, Rohit claimed that their stories would be comparable to those of Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya. He also predicted that the pair would not only become significant players for MI but also for India.

While speaking with Jio Cinema, Rohit said, “Honestly it’s going to be the same story what has happened with Bumrah, Hardik and all these guys. That’s the same story that will happen with guys like Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera. Watch the next two years, then people will say ‘Arey ye toh superstar team hai (they’re a team full of superstars)’.

“Bhai hum bana rahe hei idhar baith ke yaar. Ham Jaa rahe hei unde dekh rahe hei. Hamari team jaa rahi hei dekh rahi hei unko aur leke aa rahi hei (Brother, we are making them. We are going and seeing them. Our team is going and bringing them here.),” the Mumbai Indians skipper added.

Defending 129 was most difficult: Rohit Sharma

Further, Rohit spoke about the most difficult IPL title wins as a captain. He was asked to name the most difficult victory and he said, “2017 was most difficult, defending 129 against Pune in Hyderabad was very difficult. One over of Mitchell Johnson was set to decide the result of all of our hard work and he delivered.” However, Rohit also spoke about his experience while missing out 2011 World Cup squad.

He said, “Honestly I didn’t watch the World Cup itself except the semis and the finals because I was so disappointed that I didn’t want to watch, every time I put the TV on I felt that I could have been there, what went wrong and stuff like that.”

“I had to make changes then or I knew wouldn’t have to play cricket anymore, I knew that my life is on the edge, if I don’t perform or if I don’t do certain things manner, this can lead up to a disaster. Then I’d have nowhere to go, it was that kind of a situation for me,” he added.
