New Zealand is currently dominating Australia in the ongoing Super 12 game at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Batting first, the 2021 finalists scored exactly 200 runs after being asked to bat first. In reply, the defending champions have been struggling and losing regular wickets. In the middle of all this, the Blackcaps’ Glenn Phillips might have taken the best catch of the tournament already.

The incident happened in the ninth over of the innings bowled by the left-arm spinner, Mitchell Santner. Marcus Stoinis tried to play inside out shot from the crease. The way he connected the ball looked like it will land safely and go over the boundary. After all, there was a huge gap in the deep cover area. However, Phillips decided to catch the ball and send the dangerous Stoinis back to the shed.

Glenn dove and took a difficult catch at the deep cover which has become the talk of the town. The video of the incident is going viral.

Talking about the ongoing game, the Aussies have lost seven wickets and have scored only 95 runs in 14.5 overs at the time of writing. The writing is on the wall at the moment. Notably, this game might remind the fans of the 1992 ODI World Cup game between the two teams. In that tournament, the Kangaroos were defending the title they won in 1987. Also, not to forget, they were one of the contenders to win the title.

However, the Kiwis went on to beat the then-defending champions. 30 years later, the Aaron Finch-led side is set to lose the game by a huge margin. Even though it is too early, it will be interesting to see if Australia missed out on the semis or do well in their next games. Meanwhile, Phillips’ catch has become the talk of the town. A lot of Twitter users are talking about the catch in the midst of New Zealand being in the driving seat.
