India’s KL Rahul, who has struggled with his form over the previous year, spoke out about social media harassment. Rahul, who was a fixture for India in all three forms a year ago, has now been dropped from the T20I squad, the Test Playing XI, and the ODI vice-captaincy.

He was cut from the T20I squad following a lackluster performance in the 20-20 World Cup. Despite being the team’s vice-captain, he was benched from the last two games after playing the first two Tests against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Due to a thigh injury, his IPL 2023 season was similarly cut short, although in the nine matches he did play, his performance was likewise scrutinized. The LSG captain’s strike rate of 113.22 was not impressive as he scored 274 runs. The 32-year-old has received a lot of criticism on social media for his recent poor performance.

I work hard but the result didn’t go my way: KL Rahul

Rahul said that social media trolls may have a negative psychological impact on him and claimed that occasionally, people fail to consider what a player or athlete is going through during difficult moments. “That’s something that sometimes affects me and affects a lot of the other boys as well that when we athletes truly need support, people feel they can or have the power to comment or say what they want. Just see what that person is going through,” Rahul was quoted as saying on YouTube podcast BeerBiceps.

The swashbuckling wicketkeeper batter continued by saying that he had no backup because he knew nothing else save playing cricket. “None of us wants to perform badly. This is our life. This is all we do. Like I said, I don’t know anything else apart from cricket. That’s the only thing I do,” he said.

Rahul argued that it is unfair when others accuse him of not being serious about his work or not trying hard enough to get back in shape, and he also stated that sometimes things may not go your way despite your best efforts. “Why would anyone assume that I am not serious about my game or that I am not working hard enough? And unfortunately in sports, there is no connection. Like I said you can work hard, like I work hard but the result didn’t go my way,” he added.
