England skipper Ben Stokes seems to be giving everything in the nets ahead of the Indian T20 League 2023. He joined the team a little more than a week ahead of the tournament. In a video going viral on social media, Stokes is seen practicing six hitting with a straight bat. The left-hander was facing a bowler and a throwdown specialist.

Very excited to get Ben Stokes in the team: Chennai CEO Kasi Viswanathan

The two-time World Cup winner for England was signed by Chennai for 16.25 crores. They had to battle with the likes of Bangalore, Lucknow, his former team, Rajasthan, and Hyderabad. In the end, the four-time winners won the bidding war. Notably, he is seen as the next captain with MS Dhoni likely to retire after the 16th season.

After the signing, the team CEO, Kasi Viswanathan expressed his excitement. He said that the team was looking for an all-rounder and a future captain.

“Very excited to get Stokes and we were lucky also because he came up at the end. We wanted an allrounder and MS was very happy that we got Stokes. Captaincy option is there but it’s a call MS will take with time. Kyle Jamieson was injured so maybe many others didn’t look at him. We had information from Fleming that he had recovered and was raring to go. Chennai looks bright and I hope we do well this season. We follow the process always and that will help us do well,” Kasi Viswanathan.

On the other hand, Deepak Chahar has refuted the retirement in his recent interview.

“No one has said that this would be his final year. At least, he hasn’t. Hopefully, he will play more. We don’t know any such thing, we want him to play as much as he can,” Chahar told News India Sports.

“He knows when to retire, we saw it when he did in Tests and international cricket. No one else knows. I just hope he continues to play, it’s a privilege to play under him. It has been a dream to play with him. He’s in good touch as well, you will see that when he bats in the IPL this year,” Chahar further said
