‘Overall complete team performance’ – Fans laud India’s Team Performance After Their Thrashing 68-Runs Victory Over West Indies In The First T20I

After winning the three-match ODI series against West Indies, India was full ready to carry that winning momentum into the T20 format. On 29 July 2022, India locked horns with the same opponent for the series opener of the five-match T20I series. Big players like Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Hardik Pandya were ready to go. These players got a rest in the ODI series against the Caribbeans. However, Virat Kohli was the only missing name as he demanded complete rest from this tour. 

On the other hand, West Indies was looking to give a tough fight to India in their most preferred format. Ahead of the T20 World Cup later this year in Australia, this series is set to be a good test for both sides. Speaking of the match, West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, India again did not consider Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda in their playing XI. From the West Indies perspective, pacer Alzarri Joseph got the debut cap in T20Is ahead of this match. 

Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav came out to open the innings for India against West Indies

While batting first, Indian fans became more surprised when they saw a new opening pair of the skipper Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav.  Meanwhile, they started well before Suryakumar Yadav lost his wicket on 4.4 overs. India was at 44 runs at that stage. Apart from Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya, other batters chipped in with some contributions. In the end, veteran batter Dinesh Karthik played a gem of an innings by scoring 41* runs in 19 balls, including four fours and two sixes. Rohit Sharma was the highest scorer with his 64-run knock from 44 balls, at a strike rate of 145.45.

In reply, West Indies batters failed to create any momentum in the run chase. No players were able to stitch a significant partnership. Indian bowlers were all over them as West indies were struggling at 101 runs in 16.3 overs, by losing eight wickets. The spin trio of Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravi Bishnoi worked well. They picked up five wickets altogether. Youngster Arshdeep Singh impressed once again with his two wickets in four overs, conceding only 24 runs. Finally, West Indies managed to score 122 runs in 20 overs by losing eight wickets. India won the match by 68 runs and took a 1-0 lead, with four matches to go.
