Pakistan will host the next Men’s Asia Cup in September 2023. For the first time since 2008, the Asian country will be hosting a multi-nation tournament. In 2008, the country hosted the Asia Cup won by Sri Lanka. On October 18, Indian Cricket Board secretary and Asian Cricket Council president, Jay Shah, announced that the India Cricket Team won’t be traveling to Pakistan for the tournament.

He maintained that arranging for a neutral venue is not impossible. Notably, the Asia Cup 2018 was moved from India to the United Arab Emirates. Apparently, Pakistan Cricket Team was facing the security situation in India due to tense political relations between the two nations. As per Shah’s statement, it looks like the 2023 edition would be moved out of Pakistan.

“Neutral venue for Asia Cup is not unprecedented and we have decided that we will not travel to Pakistan. I have decided that we will play at a neutral venue,” Shah, who was re-elected as BCCI’s secretary, said.

Pakistan Cricket Board unhappy with the development: Reports

At the time of writing, their is no official word from the PCB on the development. An official from the board has said that they are looking to take hard decisions. The official said that they are looking to pull out of the 2023 ODI World Cup and the ACC membership.

“The PCB is now prepared to take hard decisions and play hard ball because it is also aware that the ICC and ACC events will have to face commercial liabilities and losses if Pakistan does not play India in these multi-team events,” a senior PCB source told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

“We have nothing to say at the moment, but yes, we will look at things and take up this matter at appropriate forums like the World Cricket Governing Council board meeting in Melbourne next month,” a spokesperson said.

“The PCB officials are surprised at the timing of Jay Shah’s statement because there is still nearly a year to go before the Asia Cup is held in Pakistan in September 2023,” an insider said.
