The New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham, recently, posted a hilarious tweet replying to all the fans, who suggested how his team should have lost the 2019 World Cup semi-final against India just for the sake of MS Dhoni.

The tweet came after IPL team Chennai Super Kings failed to score 176 runs against Rajasthan Royals at the Chepauk stadium on Wednesday, losing the game by just 3 runs. CSK skipper MS Dhoni was looking in good touch to finish the match for his team but failed to get a boundary when 5 runs were required to win off the last ball.

“Woke up to another 100 tweets about how I should’ve lost the World Cup semifinal 4 years ago. MS must’ve scored some runs again,” Neesham shared in a Tweet.

Dhoni’s run-out shattered Indian hopes of winning the 2019 World Cup

In the 2019 semi-final against New Zealand, India were chasing 240 runs and lost 6 wickets for 92 runs. After that, Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja put India back in the match by adding 116 runs for the seventh wicket. Jadeja got out after scoring 77 off 59. Still, India were hoping to win the match with Dhoni on the crease, but, in the third ball of the 49th over, Dhoni got runout followed by the direct throw by Martin Guptill after scoring 50 runs off 72 balls and India’s hopes for winning the world cup were shattered.

India were bowled out for 221 runs in 49.3 overs, and New Zealand made it into their second consecutive World Cup final after 2015. However, they lost the final to the hosts England, who won the World Cup on the basis of boundary count after the match went on to the super which also ended in a tie.

After that match, Dhoni didn’t play for the Indian team and almost a year, later, on August 15th, 2020, he announced his retirement from International cricket. However, the former Indian continued to play in the IPL. However, this is being considered Dhoni’s last season in IPL.
