The 1000th match of IPL turned out to be in the favour of the five-time champions Mumbai Indians as they defeated Rajasthan Royals by 6 wickets in a high-scoring thriller at the Wankhede Stadium in match number 42 of the ongoing season. Batting first, RR posted a total of 212 runs for the loss of 7 wickets, powered by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s maiden IPL century. In reply, MI scored 214 runs losing 4 wickets in 19.3 overs.

Jaiswal and Jos Buttler gave a flying start to RR by adding 72 runs for the first wicket in 7.1 overs. Buttler got out after scoring 18 runs off 19 with two fours and a maximum. After that, Jaiswal took the innings further with wickets falling at regular intervals from the other end. The 21-year-old completed his hundred in the 18th over off 53 balls. He got out after smashing 124 runs off just 62 balls hitting 16 fours and eight sixes. His innings helped to cross 210 runs. For MI, Arshad Khan scalped 3 wickets, Piyush Chawla took 2, while Riley Meredith and Jofra Archer shared a wicket each.

Suryakumar Yadav and Tim David took the game away from RR

Chasing the winning total, MI didn’t have a great start as they lost their skipper Rohit Sharma after two overs at the score of 14 runs. After that, Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green put up a partnership of 62 runs for the second wicket. Kishan got out in the ninth over after scoring 28 runs off 23 balls hitting four boundaries. A couple of overs later, Green also lost his wicket 44 off 26 with four fours and two sixes.

After that, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma took charge in the middle overs and added 51 runs for the fourth wicket. Suryakumar got out after smashing 55 off 29 balls hitting eight fours and two sixes. After his dismissal, Tim David took charge and remained unbeaten after smashing 45 runs off just 14 balls.

The match went down to the last over with MI needing 17 runs, and David smashed Jason Holder for three consecutive sixes on the first three balls as MI chased the highest total at Wankhede with three balls to spare. For RR, Ravichandran Ashwin scalped 2 wickets, while Trent Boult and Sandeep Sharma shared a wicket each.
