In the series-deciding one-day international on Wednesday, leg spinner Adam Zampa picked up 4-45 as Australia defeated India by 21 runs to take the top spot in the ODI rankings. Australia scored 269 runs, or par, thanks to Mitchell Marsh’s 47 runs and Alex Carey’s 38 runs. Virat Kohli’s half-century went in vain as India’s response saw them bowled out for 248 runs in 49.1 overs.

After losing the opening game, the visitors prevailed in the series 2-1. Marsh won the series award for his 194 runs in three innings. “It is just natural aggression when I am batting. I have thoroughly enjoyed it,” Marsh said, “I was really glad to come in and perform, as I am coming off an extended break.”

During the game, a few fans broke into a brawl in the stands, creating the best moment of the game, according to many. Here’s a video of the incident:

Adam Zampa was named the man of the match

Zampa, who returned with four wickets, was named the man of the match. “I have had some success in India,” Zampa said. “It is a tough place to come and always a huge challenge to play here. I don’t think I deserve this tonight, kudos to the guys who bowled before me. We had trust in our process and in our game plan.”

India had won seven straight bilateral series at home during this time, and Australia was the last foreign team to triumph in an ODI series on Indian soil. Australia responded with a 10-wicket victory after India had won the opening ODI by five wickets.

“I don’t think it was too many runs,” said skipper Rohit Sharma. “The wicket was challenging in the second innings, but we didn’t bat well enough. We failed to put up partnerships today. We will play a World Cup in these conditions in six months’ time, and we need to improve.”
