The Indian T20 League started with a revitting contest between Gujarat and Chennai on Friday at Narendra Modi Stadium. Defending champions continue their winning run as they beat Chennai by 5 wickets to make a winning start. Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat beat Chennai by five wickets to start their season on a winning note.

Star Batter Shubman Gill and all-rounder Rashid Khan shone brightly in Gujarat’s victory. Rashid Khan, who was awarded the Player of the Match, picked two wickets and also scored 10 runs off 3 balls.

Earlier, while chasing 178, Gujarat opener Shubman Gill scored a brilliant half-century to sail his team to victory. Gill, during his innings, scored 63 runs off 36 balls with the help of six boundaries and three maximums. During the game, an unfortunate incident occurred for Gujarat as Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson got injured while fielding.

Williamson, who opted out from the ODI series against Pakistan, was playing his first game for Punjab in the tournament. In the 13th over of Chennai’s innings, Williamson tried to clinch a catch at the deep mid-wicket. Following his attempt, Williamson was seen in pain as he was taken out of the ground for treatment. Now, in a recent report, it is being confirmed that he is ruled out for the whole season due to the injury.

Injury haunts franchises in the 16th edition of ITL 2023:

The 16th edition of the Indian T20 League is turning out to be one of the most injury-prone leagues. Way before the start of the season players like Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Kyle Jemminson, and Jhye Richardson got injured and were ruled out of the tournament. Amidst the injury scares, teams are also failing to get a replacement due to a lack of options. Meanwhile, fans react to Kane Williamsons’ unfortunate injury and wish him a speedy recovery.
