On 7 August 2022, the stage was set for India Women’s Team to win a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022. India took on Australia at Edgbaston with a motive to win a medal in the first-ever women’s T20 tournament in Commonwealth Games. Speaking about the match, Australia won the toss and opted to bat first.
However, Indian bowlers were looking for some early strikes as Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney came out to open for Australia. Skipper Meg Lanning also scored 36 runs off 26 balls. Even, Gardner continued her impressive form as she scored 25 runs off 15 balls. Beth Mooney was the highest scorer with her 61-run knock. She hit eight boundaries during her whole innings. However, Australia put up a total of 161 runs by losing eight wickets in 20 overs. India’s Renuka Singh was impressive once again. She picked up two wickets by conceding 25 runs in four overs.
Mohammed Azharuddin came up with some harsh words on the Indian Women’s Team’s performance in the Commonwealth Games 2022
In reply, high hopes were there for both the Indian openers. But, Smriti Mandhana and Shefali Verma failed to score big as they lost their wickets quickly. Then, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur played a captain’s knock by scoring 65 runs off 43 balls. She hit seven boundaries along with two sixes. India was on the track while chasing the target of 162 runs. Harmanpreet and Jemimah Rodrigues stitched up a partnership of 96 runs. But, then, India faced a batting collapse as they got bundled out for 152 runs in 19.3 overs. India lost the match by nine runs and settled for a silver medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022.
Now, after the match, former India captain Mohammed Azharuddin came up with a tweet to criticize India women’s batting. He shared a post with a captain: “Rubbish batting by the Indian team. No common sense. Gave away a winning game on a platter. #INDvsAUS #WomensCricket #CWG22”. Meanwhile, fans did not like that as they came out to support Team India by raising their voice against the former India captain.

Here is how fans have reacted to that tweet of Azharuddin on Twitter:
Absolutely, no one plays to loose. Those words of Azharuddin were very harsh but I am sure that’s not going to deter these girls.

Do u hv courage to talk against the bcci and Ganguly? BCCI doesnt want to invest in w ipl or w crckt amd expecting results. Jat see the differemce betwen any Aus player and Taniya Jemimah. Aus players r amazon. Indian players still fight hard.

Seriously shameful from an ex captain of India.
Plus the Indian Women team fought till the end.
Not like Md Azharuddin who sold his country, his reputation and all respect earned to lose to the South Africans.

Excuse me sir, but how many world cup finals, okay semifinals, okay ANY knockout games did your team win against the Aussies in your day? And for your information, this team has WON a silver medal at the CWG! Show them some freaking respect, if you're capable of that, of course!
