After having a heartbreak in the semi-final of the last year’s 20-20 World Cup, Pakistan fans were hoping to win the Asia Cup 2022. They took on Sri Lanka on 11 September 2022 in Dubai International stadium. But, spirited Lankans were too good for them as they defeated Pakistan by 23 runs.

After losing the match, Pakistani fans were not happy as they were thinking to win this prestigious tournament for the third time in their history. But, they failed miserably. However, after the match, veteran Pakistani cricketer, Shoaib Malik shared a tweet to take a dig at his national team. Things went crazier when another former Pakistani player, Kamran Akmal supported his tweet in the common section. Their tweets went viral quickly.

Here is the shared tweet and Akmal’s reply:

Speaking of that tweet, after Pakistan’s loss, Malik tweeted: “When will we come out from friendship, liking & disliking culture. Allah always helps the honest…”. It seemed that he took a dig at the Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and the current team management. He kind of accused them of playing players whom they only like or have a good relationship with.

In reply to that, Kamran Akmal also supported him. He tweeted: “Ustad G …don’t be this much honest”. Akmal warned Shoaib Malik not to be so much honest with a smiling emoticon. Before this tournament, there were reports that Pakistan might recall veteran players like Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez into their squad. But, Pakistan’s selectors ignored them totally.

Now, ahead of the 20-20 World Cup, these tweets can be a headache for the Pakistan Cricket Board. Speaking of the match, Sri Lanka scored 170 runs by losing six wickets in 20 overs. But, in reply, Pakistan got bundled out for 147 runs in 20 overs. Thus, Sri Lanka won their sixth Asia Cup title. Wanindu Hasaranga won the player of the tournament award for his overall performance.
