Former Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik is the only player from 1990’s decade who is still playing the game. Players who either played with him or made their debuts after him are retired. Some of them have taken up coaching while other are doing commentary. Meanwhile, Malik is currently finding it hard to cement his place in the team. Apparently, the right-hander was ignored by the selectors for the 20-20 World Cup 2022.

At a time when his national side is struggling with the middle-order, the selectors have decided to move on from the veteran. At a time when the Pakistan players are preparing for the tournament, the 2009 20-20 World Cup winner posted a picture with the caption ‘When quitting is not an option. Clearly, it suggest that the 40-year-old is not ready to quit the game just yet. Notably, there is a section in Pakistan cricket believe that the Sialkot player should have been part of the team.

My job is to play cricket: Shoaib Malik

Meanwhile, after being snubbed, Shoaib opened up and said that his job is to play the game whenever he gets the opportunity. He didn’t had any hard feelings after the ignorance. He maintained that it was the team management’s call to not select him.

“My job is to play cricket whenever I get the opportunity. It’s team management’s call to pick me up or not. Whenever I get a chance, I will try to make the best out of it. I don’t have a problem with anyone and I am not against anyone because being positive has been a major reason behind the success of my career,” Malik was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
