On Sunday, May 21, Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a tightly contested game contested at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Despite Virat Kohli’s outstanding effort, GT managed to outperform his team thanks to Shubman Gill’s 104-run knock in only 52 balls. After the defending champions completed the league stage on a high note with a thrilling victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday, May 21 in Bengaluru, 23-year-old Shubman Gill expressed optimism that Gujarat Titans will be able to advance to the final for a second consecutive time in the IPL.

Shubman Gill and his sister received death threats from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) supporters hours after the team was eliminated from the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs for the 2023 season. Due to his brilliant innings to knock RCB out of the competition, Shubman Gill and his sister were subjected to death threats on social media. The comments section of Shubman Gill’s posts on Instagram and Twitter were filled with hate by angry RCB fans who were disheartened to see their team get knocked out of the league.

On Wednesday in Chennai, Mumbai Indians will set out to play Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator, while Gujarat Titans take on Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 1 a day earlier. Gill said in a statement following his Sunday victory as Player of the Match that the Gujarat Titans are eager to face Chennai in Chennai and that they have the tools to get to the final. He said, “It’s going to be an exciting one, playing against Chennai in Chennai. We have got a great bowling attack for that wicket in particular and hopefully, we’ll make it to the final for the second time.”

Shubman Gill spoke about his current form in the Indian Premier League and discussed how he has improved since the first half of the season. He said, “I am in good form, it’s about getting a start and then converting it into a big one. In the first half of the IPL, I was missing out on those big ones. I was getting a lot of 40s and 50s. Thankfully, it’s all working out for me in the business end of the IPL. You need to keep playing shots in T20 cricket. You have to keep the intent and keep applying yourself, keep the belief.”
