‘Shuru hone se pehle hi khatam’ – Fans react as inaugural match of SA20 gets abandoned due to rain

The first tournament match was forced to be postponed due to inclement weather, giving the SA20 2024 a rather rough start. Earlier this morning, a sizable crowd turned out to see a thrilling match of franchise cricket. The SA20 2024 season was going to kick off today with a matchup between two of the top teams from the previous campaign. But the rain gods had also made up their minds to show up and ruin the South African celebration.
The rain prediction for the game was well-known to the organisers and supporters. Weather.com indicated that there was a 15–55 per cent chance of precipitation during the duration of the match before the game. As so, before to the actual game, there was a strong possibility that it would conclude in a washout.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape, the current SA20 champions, won the title by a four-wicket margin the previous year. On the other hand, in the second semifinal, Sunrisers Eastern Cape triumphed against Johannesburg Super Kings by a score of 14 runs. Sunrisers Eastern Cape have emerged as the clear favourites to win today’s game despite fielding a strong lineup.
On paper, both teams were more formidable than the previous campaign. Today’s match included Faf du Plessis and Aiden Markram, two of South Africa’s most well-known batsmen and leaders. Following a brilliant century in their captivating match against India in Cape Town, Aiden Markram is in form. On the other hand, Faf du Plessis is looking to return to the South African squad for the shortest format.
In this unwelcome scenario, which side will win?
For this epic match, both teams had been training hard. After a few weeks of preparation, both teams faced the Netherlands national team to ensure they were ready for the one-month competition.
Now, in the unusual event that the game is abandoned, the two teams will split the points. Sunrisers Eastern Cape will play the Durban Super Giants in their next match. In the meantime, MI Cape Town will travel to play the Johannesburg Super Kings in the classic match.
Look at how the fans have reacted:
An SA20 match abandoned feels like IPL washout. We have all started loving this league so much in no time.#SA20

That's unfortunate! Rain interruptions can be disappointing, especially for the players and fans eagerly waiting for the game.
