This upcoming Lanka Premier League season was scheduled to be held from 1st to 21st August 2022

Previously, this upcoming Lanka Premier League season was set to get kicked off on 1st August 2022. Even, on 5 July 2022, a total of 353 players got drafted also among the five teams. Among these players, 180 were foreign players while 173 were Sri Lankans. The draft got conducted in 20 rounds where players were considered from different categories.

Several categories were ‘International Ruby,’ ‘International Sapphire,’ ‘International Diamond ‘A,’ ‘B,’ and ‘International Platinum’. Two players from the Under-23 category were a must for each team when they built their squad for the upcoming season. However, after conducting the Australia series at home, Sri Lanka cricket was looking to get back on track by conducting this mega event on home soil despite recent tough times.

Speaking of this situation, it was a tough year for people in Sri Lanka as the economic crisis hit them brutally. Widespread protests have been seen throughout the country, with people marching toward the President’s home. However, International cricket is still going on in Sri Lanka as Pakistan is currently playing a two-match Test series against them.

Speaking about the ongoing first Test at Galle, Sri Lanka scored 222 runs in the first innings while Pakistan managed only 218 runs. At the end of Day two, Sri Lanka is leading by 40 runs with nine wickets to spare.
