In what comes as shocking news, Sri Lanka batter Danushka Gunathilaka has been arrested on the charges of rape. He was part of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 team in Australia. The left-hander played a few games including the one against Namibia in which his side famously lost. In the middle of the tournament, the 3-year-old got injured. However, the team management decided to keep him with the team.

Talking about the team, they qualified for the Super 12 round after beating the UAE and the Netherlands. They had lost their opening game against Namibia. In the Super 12 round, the team played five games, lost three, and won two. As they are are knocked out of the semis, they were scheduled to leave for Colombo. However, the 2014 winners have left for their nation leaving Gunathilaka behind.

Danushka Gunathilaka met the woman after chatting on an online dating app: New South Wales Police

According to the statement from the New South Wales Police, the Sri Lankan batter met the woman after chatting on an online dating app. The statement from the police said that the unfortunate incident happened on November 2. Danushka has been denied bail by the court and further inquiries will be conducted on him.

“The woman met with the man after communicating with him for a number of days via an online dating application; it’s alleged he then sexually assaulted her on the evening of Wednesday 2 November 2022,” a New South Wales police statement said. “As part of ongoing investigations, a crime scene examination was undertaken by specialist police at an address in Rose Bay yesterday.
“Following further inquiries, a 31-year-old man was arrested at a hotel on Sussex Street, Sydney, shortly before 1am today (Sunday 6 November 2022).
“He was taken to Sydney City Police Station and charged with four counts of sexual intercourse without consent. The Sri Lankan national was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court via AVL today.”
