Star Kolkata player ruled out of Indian T20 League 2022
In what comes as big news, Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the ongoing Indian T20 League 2022. The bowling all-rounder was representing the Kolkata-based franchise. However, a hip injury has forced him to miss the remaining part of this edition.
According to a report by cricket.com.au, Cummins will be returning to Sydney. Nevertheless, his hip injury isn’t serious, and he is expected to recover in a few weeks. Besides, he was rested for Australia’s upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka. While the Aussies are set to travel to the island nation for an all-format series, their tour starts with a three-match T20I series, with the first T20I set to take place on June 7.
Thus, Cummins’ injury isn’t going to act as a barrier towards his national duties. He is expected to be available for the Test and ODI series against Sri Lanka. As for the 15th edition of the cash-rich league, Kolkata will have to play their remaining games of this tournament without him. Cummins has been fairly decent in the 2022 edition.
In the five games he played this season, he picked seven wickets at an average of 30.29. This includes a match-winning 3/22 against Mumbai as well. Earlier in the tournament, he had also scored a 15-ball 56 with the bat against the same team. However, he was expensive with the ball as he leaked a lot of runs in several games.
Meanwhile, Kolkata have Tim Southee, who has been in superb form of late. The Kiwi pacer has picked 12 wickets in seven games at an average of 16.25. Besides, Umesh Yadav has been in superb form for Kolkata as well. As far as the performance of the Shreyas Iyer-led side in the 2022 edition is concerned, they have won five out of their 12 games.
Thus, they are currently placed seventh on the points table. However, they are still in the race to qualify for the playoffs. To make it to the top four, the two-time champions will not only have to win their next two games, but would also have to hope that the results of a few matches go their way.
