Virat Kohli’s first century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since 2019 brought about a wide range of responses from people all across the world. Former India and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper scored 100 runs from 63 balls to assist his team defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)  by 8 wickets. Because it was Kohli’s sixth IPL century overall, he was able to tie Chris Gayle, a former teammate, for the most tournament tonnes.

On social media, several of the top players praised Kohli, but one message, in particular, drew our attention: that of former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir. “What an inning by one and only the real king @imVkohli take a bow,” Amir referred to his memorable matches against Kohli throughout the years in his tweet.

Fans have seen Amir’s comments as more than simply him praising a fierce competitor on social media. Instead, a lot of people have seen this as the former Pakistan fast bowler’s most recent jab at the team’s star and captain Babar Azam, with whom he is rumored to have a tense relationship.

My job is to take wickets and win matches for my team: Mohammad Amir

Amir’s feelings after removing Babar from the recently finished Pakistan Super League (PSL), along with a few errant remarks he made about not caring who he bowls to, have raised questions about whether he and Babar share the same viewpoints. Fans are pointing out that Amir is calling Kohli “the real king” in the current situation. The title “King” is used to refer to both Babar and Kohli.

Amir has before explained how he doesn’t distinguish between the opponents, saying that bowling to Babar would be akin to bowling tailenders. “These kinds of matchups and player rivalries keep players on their toes. I personally like these sort of challenges because it keeps me focused. My job is to take wickets and win matches for my team, so for me, facing Babar or a tailender batting at number 10 will be the same,” Amir had said.

Heinrich Klaasen’s brilliant 104 off 51 balls helped SRH reach 186/5, which is primarily to his credit. With a 172-run opening partnership, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis and opening partner Virat Kohli, though, managed to easily surpass that goal. This was Kohli’s sixth century overall and his first in the IPL since 2019.
