Both Steve Smith and David Warner are currently busy playing for Australia in a home ODI series against Zimbabwe. After winning the series opener convincingly, Australia is waiting to face them again in the second match. However, the next edition of the Big Bash League will happen later this year. Speaking of players, David Warner was looking to skip the tournament first.

There were reports that Warner was looking to be part of the new franchise T20 Leagues in the UAE. But, the Australian Cricket Board managed to keep him for the tournament. The Sydney franchise offered him a big-daddy contract. But, as per reports, Steve Smith might not be happy with such a lumpsum amount of offer for his fellow teammate.

“Big players are a little bit disappointed in terms of remuneration” – Steve Smith

Ahead of the second ODI against Zimbabwe, Smith said that local players need to be taken care of all around the globe. He said: “In terms of tournaments around the world, you have to look after your local players most importantly.”

Smith also said that it is good to see some player is getting such a lumpsum amount. But, some big players might not be happy with that. Even, he wished that there might be some ways to keep local players happy. “Seeing some of the players who are coming out for big cash, I know a few of the local players that are big players are a little bit disappointed in terms of remuneration for the tournament, so I think there’s going to have to be a way around that to keep your local players happy.” Steve Smith added.

Speaking about the offered contract to David Warner, the Sydney franchise offered him a multi-million dollar contract, just like top overseas players. Speaking of the ongoing series, both Smith and Warner had a good outing against the visitors. In the successful chase of 201 runs, Warner scored 57 runs off 66 balls. Meanwhile, Steve Smith remained unbeaten on 48 runs off 80 balls.
