On 1 September 2022, Sri Lanka took on Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2022. The stage was set for both teams as they were coming off a defeat against Afghanistan. Before the match, some controversy was also there between the teams. After the Afghanistan match, Sri Lankan skipper, Dasun Shanaka said that Bangladesh lacks world-class bowlers apart from Shakib al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman.

In response to that, Bangladesh Team Director, Khaled Mahmud said that Sri Lanka does not have any world-class bowlers. Hence, fans were eagerly waiting for the encounter. Speaking of the match, Sri Lanka won the toss, and they opted to field first.

Sri Lanka Team Management Shared some coded signals from the dressing room against Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2022

Speaking about the match, Bangladesh batters came out to open the innings. But, something interesting happened during the match. Sri Lanka’s team analyst was seen sending coded messages to Sri Lanka’s captain and his players. The codes read “2D” and “D5”. Their head coach Chris Silverwood was by his side. However, this was not the first time when Silverwood got involved with such an incident.

In the T20 series in South Africa in 2020, Silverwood was the coach of England. During that series, Eoin Morgan was getting coded signals from the dressing room. Meanwhile, former England skipper, Michael Vaughn. But, Morgan defended its use by saying there was nothing wrong with it. Now, again with the same action from the Sri Lanka dressing room, fans did not like it all. They shared their displeasure on social media platforms. Even, they started to question the role of the captain on the field. However, Bangladesh scored 183 runs in 20 overs by losing seven wickets. Afif Hossain was the highest scorer for his team with 39 runs off 22 balls. He batted at a strike rate of 177.27.
