The 20-20 World Cup 2022 is ongoing and the teams are toiling hard to prove their supremacy and make a name for themselves. The tournament has already witnessed a few epic clashes and the match between India and Pakistan on October 23 was no different as the Men in Blue pulled a win off the final ball of the match.
However, it hasn’t been the only case as rain has played a spoilsport in the tournament as well. The match between South Africa and Zimbabwe turned out to be the turning point of the tournament for Group 2 as the teams shared 1 point apiece after the match was called off due to rain.
On October 26, Wednesday, the match between England and Ireland ended up being decided by the DLS method and it was the latter who took home the 2 points after winning the match by 5 runs. On the same day, the most-awaited clash between New Zealand and Afghanistan got washed out and the teams shared 1 point apiece making Group 1, the group of death in the tournament.
Fans, who got frustrated with the same, started coming up with memes and thrashed Cricket’s governing body for messing up with venues yet again.
While teams are playing hard-fought games, the weather, on the other hand, is trying its best to play its own game and make an impact on the points table. R Ashwin, who pulled off the winning runs for India against Pakistan, said that the weather was extremely cold and added that the players struggled to keep themselves warm.
“It was extremely cold and hostile that day in the MCG. It was extremely cold for a cricket match. Even while playing, our hands got extremely numb. As a spinner, I felt it extremely difficult to grip the ball. It took time to settle into a rhythm in that cold weather,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel. It remains to see if the future games would get affected by rain or get washed out. However, fans would hope that the rain gods show mercy and let matches conclude for the benefit of the tournament.
