The 15th edition of the FIH Hockey World Cup is set to kick off on January 13 in Bhubneshwar, India. The first edition was played 51 years ago in Spain. Notably, the previous edition was played in India as well. In 2018, Belgium won the tournament which means they will be defending champions in the upcoming edition.
A total of 16 teams will play each other in a single round-robin format. All these teams will get to play three games each before the next round. Notably, the most successful team in the history of the tournament, Pakistan failed to qualify for the tournament. 1. Belgium
The defending champions won their maiden title five years ago as they beat the three-time winners in the final. Now, the attention will all be on them as they look to defend the title. Only Pakistan, Australia, and Germany have managed to defend their titles.
Talking about the Red Lions, they are currently ranked number three in the FIH rankings with 1709 points. They have announced 18-man squad and will be one of the biggest contenders to win the title.
