With so much controversy going around the 2023 Asia Cup, Pakistan Cricket Board chief Najam Sethi confirmed that the tournament can take place in England if it doesn’t take place in Pakistan, Sethi also said that being the host, it is the authority of PCB where the Asia Cup would be held. “England could be a possibility as a venue for the Asia Cup,” he said in a conversation on Sports Hour.

Meanwhile, PCB is still desperate to retain the hosting rights of the tournament as it has submitted three proposals regarding the same. However, Indian Cricket Board Secretary Jay Shah is also trying hard to move the tournament out of Pakistan. Being the President of the Asia Cricket Council (ACC), he has a lot of input into the matter and is unlikely to make a decision in Pakistan’s favour.

Meanwhile, Sethi has also been saying that their government would allow the Pakistan team to travel to India for the ODI World Cup later in the year. He also slammed the Indian Cricket Board when he got to know that the India-Pakistan World Cup fixture is scheduled to be hosted by the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He also opened up about his equation with Jay Shah regarding the ongoing controversy.

‘It gave the impression that this was a red herring…’ – Najam Sethi

“When I heard that the Pakistan match was to be in Ahmedabad, I smiled and said to myself – ‘this is one way to make sure we don’t come to India’. I mean if you’d said Chennai or Kolkata, it might have made sense,” he said in an interview with Indian Express.

“I don’t want to go into the politics of it but certainly there seems to be a political angle to this because if there’s one city where we might have security issues, it’s Ahmedabad. And therefore, I think the less said about that, the better. It gave the impression that this was a red herring that was thrown in our way to tell us, ‘hey, we are going to play you in Ahmedabad and you watch out. You know who rules Ahmedabad,” he added.
