 Tom Moody’s Association With The Sri Lankan Cricket Comes To An End – Reports

Sri Lanka enjoyed a great Asia Cup campaign as they managed to win the tournament. After having a rough patch as a team in recent times, it was a great moment for all the Sri Lankan fans and cricketers ahead of the 20-20 World Cup. But, now reports are there that ahead of that mega event, Tom Moody is going to part ways with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). 

He will leave his post as the director of cricket. Sri Lanka appointed this former Australia player on 1 March 2021. The Technical Advisory Committee of the SLC recommended him. Now, the Executive Committee mutually agreed with Tom Moody to end his contract with immediate effect.

Tom Moody used to report directly to the Technical Advisory Committee. But, now the committee has ceased to exist. Sri Lanka Cricket also thanked Moody for his contribution during his tenure. They also wished him the very best in his future endeavors.

Regarding that, Moody said that It was a privilege to service SLC again. He is also proud of what he managed to achieve during his term with the guidance of the Technical Advisory Committee. While talking to AFP, Mohan de Silva, secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said that the Board can’t pay his fees in a long term.

Hence, the Board decided to end his three-year contract. He said: “We could not afford his fees in the long run. We also feel we need a person who is more hands-on, who can spend more time in Sri Lanka.” Speaking about Sri Lanka’s performance, they won the Asia Cup under Moody’s guidance. In the final, they defeated Pakistan by 23 runs as they managed their sixth Asia Cup title. Now, they will look to qualify for the upcoming mega event, the 20-20 World Cup in Australia. Sri Lanka will be in action again in the qualifiers before the main round of the 20-20 World Cup kicks off.
