Exactly two years back (19th January 2021), India won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the second consecutive time in Australia. In 2018-19, the Asian side created history as they won their first-ever Test series in Australia. However, the second series victory was tougher than the first one. Four years back, India had a full-strength side while in the second series, the team lost its main player due to several reasons.

Meanwhile, in the series played a couple of years back, the then Virat Kohli-led side was trailing by 1-0 after the first Test. Not to forget, the team was infamously bowled out for 36 runs. However, the team made a terrific comeback in Melbourne Test to level the series 1-1. In the new year’s Test at Sydney, the visitors were looking on course to chase down 406 runs with Rishabh Pant and Cheteshwar Pujara batting.

However, their wickets meant that India needed to draw the game to keep themselves in the hunt to win the series. After successfully drawing the Sydney Test, both teams entered The Gabba in Brisbane. Despite having a lot of debutants and an inexperienced bowling attack, the team made sure they were on the hunt for the game. When the likes of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma came out to bat, India needed 325 runs to win on the last day.

India successfully chased down the target of 329 runs to clinch Border-Gavaskar Trophy

On the last day of the historic Gabba Test, Sharma got out early. The likes of Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara stitched a partnership of 114 runs for the second wicket. The former was looking set to get to his maiden Test hundred but got out at 91 runs India skipper at the time, Ajinkya Rahane scored a brisk 24 runs. After his wicket, the Player of the Match, Rishabh Pant came out to bat. He scored 89 not out and took the team over the line. Not to forget, Pujara also tired the opposition bowlers on his way to his fifty.
