According to reports, five franchises Rajasthan, Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, and Mumbai have already shown their interest. Speaking of this new tournament, Jay Shah already confirmed that this event is going to consist of five or six teams only. He said: “I am thrilled at the kind of response we have got from stakeholders. Multiple existing Indian T20 League teams have enquired and expressed serious interest in owning Women’s Indian T20 League franchises.”

Meanwhile, Saurav Ganguly confirmed the news of this tournament earlier this year. He said: “We are at the level of formulation to have a full-fledged Women’s Indian T20 League. It is certainly going to happen. I strongly believe that next year, 2023 will be a very good time to start a full-fledged Women’s Indian T20 League which will be as big and grand a success as men’s Indian T20 League.”

However, speaking to Sportsskeeda, a close source to the Kolkata franchise confirmed the franchise’s interest in this event. He said: “As far as I know, they [the Knight Riders Group] are quite interested in buying the Kolkata franchise for the Women’s Indian T20 League and working together with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to groom and pick players. The Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) will be a good rehearsal for them.” The Bengal Cricket Board official added: “It’s good to see the Kolkata franchise promotes Women’s cricket. Although they haven’t yet spoken to us about the Women’s Indian T20 League, we’re ready to help them in every possible way, be it in terms of infrastructure or talent pool.”
