After losing against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the ‘Super Four’ round of the Asia Cup 2022, India lost the chance of getting into the final. Afghanistan also lost those matches. Hence, it was a dead rubber between India and Afghanistan in Dubai on 8 September. But, ahead of the 20-20 World Cup, both teams were looking for a win in their last match.

However, Rohit Sharma took a rest from this match. Hence, KL Rahul got the opportunity to lead the team against Afghanistan. During the toss, Rahul confirmed that Rohit took the rest to keep himself fresh ahead of the World Cup. However, Nabi won the toss and he asked India to bat first.

Fans went crazy as Virat Kohli hit the 71st international century after a gap of 1021 days

Speaking of the batting, Virat Kohli came out to open the innings with KL Rahul in absence of Rohit Sharma. Since 2019, Virat failed to score a century across any format for India. On the last tour of England, fans were expecting a better show from him. But, the former India skipper failed to deliver once again. Then, he took a rest from both the tour of Zimbabwe and the West Indies. Ahead of the Asia Cup, he shared that he was feeling more refreshed and looking to do good in the tournament. Meanwhile, he looked in good touch as he already scored two fifties in the first four matches of the tournament.

But, against Afghanistan, he managed to show his absolute best form as he smashed his maiden T20I ton. With this ton, he ended his century drought after a huge gap of 1021 days. With this innings, India posted 212 runs in 20 overs by losing two wickets only. In reply, Afghanistan scored only 111 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. Thus, India won the match by 101 runs. However, fans went crazy after seeing this batter scoring his first-ever ton in T20Is. No one expected Kohli to end the century drought, especially in this format. But, fans celebrated in some crazy ways as the videos went viral all over the internet.

Here is how fans have celebrated Virat Kohli’s 71st international century all over India:
