India’s opening batter, Shubman Gill has brought up his second ODI hundred in the ongoing game against Sri Lanka. His first came against Zimbabwe last year. In the first game of the series, Gill missed out on a century as he was trapped lbw by Dasun Shanaka after scoring 70 runs. However, in the ongoing game, the 2018 U19 World Cup winner ensured he reached the triple-figure mark.

In the first 10 balls, the Punjab player didn’t score a run as the Lankan Lions bowled well. However, he opened his account with a cut short as Lahiru Kumara bowled a loosener outside off. In the fifth and sixth overs of the innings, the former India U19 player scored five fours. From being zero off 10 balls, the Gujarat player in the Indian T20 League raced to 29 off 23 balls.

After the powerplay, Shubman ensured that the scorecard kept ticking with singles and doubles and occasional boundaries. Even after skipper, Rohit Sharma got out after getting to 42, the Fazilka-born, Gill kept the scoreboard ticking alongside former skipper Virat Kohli. The 23-year-old kept going and eventually reached the milestone with a single.

Notably, before reaching his hundred, he plundered part-timer Nuwanidu Fernando for a six and a four in the 29th over. These boundaries brought him close.

Shubman Gill was cleaned by Kasun Rajitha

After reaching his hundred on the last ball of the 31st over, the opening batter plundered three fours against Jefferey Wandersey. Notably, Gill hit his first six of his innings and the game against the same bowler. Meanwhile, right after the drinks break, Sri Lanka skipper Shanaka brought back Kasun Rajitha to pick some wickets. The latter responded immediately as he cleaned up India’s opening batter after he had scored 116 runs. The fans and cricket fraternity are mighty impressed with the knock
