Pakistan has been excelling under the leadership of Babar Azam for the past couple of seasons in international cricket. The leader of the pack himself has been influential in the team’s amazing performances. But one more key cog of the Pakistani batting has been their wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan.

Notably, this duo has been responsible for their first-ever World Cup win against their arch-rivals, India. In the T20 World Cup 2021, Pakistan registered an emphatic win against India. Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam steered Pakistan home while batting second in the match registering a win by 10 wickets.

Mohammad Rizwan has recently recalled the incidents of Pakistan’s last meeting with India. He was heard speaking about his first meeting with the then Indian captain, Virat Kohli, and how Rizwan’s interaction with Kohli changed his perceptions about the Indian star cricketer. Rizwan also spoke about his first meeting with MS Dhoni after that match, who was the mentor of the Indian team for the tournament.

It was the first time I was meeting Kohli. The kind of things I had heard about him… like other players told me ‘Virat is aggressive and all’. But the way he met me before and after the match, it was amazing. If I said ‘he is our Virat Kohli’, it’s because we all are a family. Obviously, when we enter the ground, no one is a star,”- said Rizwan during a conversation on Waheed Khan’s YouTube channel Cricket Baaz.

“There we have no brotherhood or anything of that sort. But outside the field, when we met Kohli, and some of our players also met MS Dhoni, we met with a lot of love and affection. Nothing was different,”- Rizwan further added.

The mother of all rivalries in the cricketing world will once again be on display for the fans to enjoy during this year’s Asia Cup, which will be played in the T20 format. The two teams will be also seen taking the field against each other during the T20 World Cup at the Iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on October 23. While India will be looking to redeem themselves during the match, Pakistan will try and repeat their performance of the last edition.
