In recent times, T20 Leagues have become a regular thing for Cricket fans. Apart from Indian T20 League, Big Bash League, and others, new T20 leagues are taking shape all around the world. Recently, concerns also were there that ODI and Test format might lose their credibility in times to come.

Franchise cricket has become a new trend for every country and its respective Cricket Boards. Even, several big players like Trent Boult have already terminated their central contract with New Zealand cricket to be available for franchises. Now, the former Indian batter, Virender Sehwag opened up about the way forward in all formats of the game.

“I don’t agree that only T20 is the way forward.” – Virender Sehwag

As quoted by Reuters, Virender Sehwag said that he does not think that the shortest format of the game is the only way forward in the coming days for Cricket. He said: “I don’t agree that only T20 is the way forward. Test cricket and one-day cricket will stay because the ICC makes sure countries play them so it can organize the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup. Test cricket and ODIs are very much part of how the game moves forward.”

Sehwag also said that this is the best time to play cricket as players have options to secure themselves from a financial point of view. “I think this is the best time to play cricket because even if you don’t play for your country and just play these T20 leagues, you are secure from a financial point of view,” he added.

He also said that the upcoming International T20 League are going to be a huge success as the Indian T20 League franchise are supporting them financially. “The league is run by professionals, has the best players taking part in it, and the franchise owners have experience in running sports teams. The biggest advantage is the league is in the UAE, which means a larger number of people from across continents will be able to watch it because the time zone will suit them,” Virender Sehwag concluded.
