On 18 August 2022, India kicked off the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. After winning the white-ball series in West Indies and England, India was looking for another overseas series win in Zimbabwe. However, senior players took a rest from this series ahead of the Asia Cup. Hence, KL Rahul got the chance to lead India in this series.

On the other hand, Zimbabwe was also coming a good T20I and ODI series win over Bangladesh at their home. Hence, they were looking to continue their winning momentum against India also. However, Indian fans were looking for a comeback of KL Rahul and Deepak Chahar after a long time.

India won the match by 10 wickets against Zimbabwe

Speaking of the match, India won the toss and opted to bowl first. Now, while batting first, Zimbabwe batters failed to settle in their innings. They only managed to score 189 runs in 40.3 overs, by losing all the wickets. It was the lower-order batters of Zimbabwe who scored some runs to reach that total. Their skipper Regis Chakabva was the highest scorer with 35 runs off 51 balls, including four boundaries.

Three Indian players took three wickets each in the innings. Deepak Chahar was in good form as he picked up three wickets. In reply to that, Indian batters started with full confidence. Meanwhile, KL Rahul did not come out to open with Shikhar Dhawan. India went with the same opening pair as they used in West Indies for the ODI series. Shubman Gill came out to bat with Dhawan. Both batters batted brilliantly as India chased the target in just 30.5 overs without losing any wicket. Gill scored 82* runs off 72 balls while Dhawan scored 81* runs off 113 balls. Hence, India managed to win the series opener by 10 wickets. Now, they will take on Zimbabwe again on 20 August 2022 for the second ODI match in the series.
