As per reports by InsideSport, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be selecting two separate squads for India’s T20 series against South Africa and India’s tour of England. The report now suggests that the separate teams will also have separate coaching staff. While Rahul Dravid will travel with the Test team to England, BCCI might ask VVS Laxman to step in as the coach for the team playing South Africa T20I series and Ireland T20I series.

Notably, the Test team under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy will leave for England on the 15th or 16th of June, 2022. Rahul Dravid will be playing his role of Head Coach for this team. On the other hand, it is tipped that Shikhar Dhawan will be leading the T20 team in South Africa and Ireland series, while VVS Laxman might be seen as the coach of this squad.

“We now have a warm-up game against Leicestershire on June 24 before the Birmingham Test. Rahul Dravid and the team will leave on June 15th or 16th. We will be asking VVS to step in for India South Africa T20s and Ireland T20s,”- revealed a top BCCI official.

The selectors are going for a two-squad approach in order to give rest to the multi-format players after a hectic Indian T20 League season. The senior players will be rested from South Africa series while the ITL top performers will be taking the field in this case. Players like Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik are also expected to make a comeback in the team.

Last year also India fielded two sperate squads while playing simultaneously against England and Sri Lanka. But this time the two sperate squads won’t be playing simultaneously. While one team comprising of ITL performers like Umran Malik, Mohsin Khan, Tilkak Varma will be reportedly playing against South Africa at home, the senior members and multi-star formats will be touring England.
