England lost their first ever ODI series at home since 2014 after getting defeated by India on 17 July 2022. After losing the one-off Test match, India came back to win both the series in T20I and ODI format. In the series decider, Rishabh Pant scored his maiden ODI hundred to chase down the tricky target of 260 runs with ease.

Hardik Pandya was also the star of the show as he scored 71 runs while chasing. He also took four crucial wickets while bowing. Now, former Indian batter, Wasim Jaffar came up with a big statement for Pandya regarding his white-ball format abilities.

“If he plays for another 5-7 years, Hardik could get close to Kapil’s record.” – Wasim Jaffar

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Jaffar was asked if Pandya has the ability to overcome Kapil Dev’s records in the coming days. In reply, he said that Hardik has all the abilities within him to break the record of the Indian legend, Kapil Dev in the white-ball format. He said: “Yes. He definitely has the capability (of bettering Kapil Dev’s record in white ball cricket). Kapil Dev is a very big name. It is difficult to arrive at a conclusion so soon. But if he keeps bowling like this (it can happen). He already has the batting capability. If he plays for another 5-7 years, he could get close to Kapil’s record.”

Speaking about Hardik’s recent performances, he led his Gujarat franchise to victory in this year’s Indian T20 League. He also led India to a 2-0 victory over Ireland while he performed so well in England. In the ODI series, he was the player of the series as he scored 100 runs in two innings and picked up six wickets with the ball.

Till now, Hardik Pandya played 66 ODIs where he scored 1386 runs at an average of 33.80. He also grabbed 63 wickets so far. On the other hand, Kapil Dev took 253 wickets at an average of 27.45 and scored 3783 runs at an average of 23.79 for India in the white-ball format.
