New Zealand are currently playing a tri-series at home against Pakistan and Bangladesh. All games are being played at Christchurch. The three teams play four games each in the tri-series and the final will be played between the top two sides on the points table.

New Zealand and Bangladesh played the fifth match of the series yesterday against Bangladesh. The Tigers won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Kiwis started on a great note with Devon Conway and Finn Allen racing off to a great start.

Devon Conway and Glenn Philips scored 64 and 60 respectively. Valuable contributions from Allen and Martin Guptill helped New Zealand reach a huge total of 208-5 in their 20 overs.

In the second innings, Bangladesh lost two wickets and were rocked on the backfoot early. There was nothing much to write about Bangladesh with the bat as no one got going except Litton Das and Soumya Sarkar who scored 23 each. Shakib Al Hasan was the star with the bat as he smashed 70 from 44 balls with eight fours and one six.

Bangladesh eventually lost the match to New Zealand by 48 runs. There were plenty of interesting moments in the game but the one that raised a lot of eyeballs was Najmul Shanto’s dropped catch in the first over of the Bangladesh innings.

Shanto came down the pitch and got a thick edge to short cover. Conway and Glenn Phillips both called for the catch. Tim Southee also came in from cover and mid off. Since Conway had called for the catch the others were expecting him to take it, but he backed out at the last moment and the ball landed between four fielders. It was a comedy off errors that gave Shanto a free reprieve in the end.

New Zealand won the game and will play the final against Pakistan on October 14 on Friday.
