On 10 September 2022, Aaron Finch confirmed that he will play his last ODI match for Australia on 11 September against New Zealand. Hence, the stage was set for seeing this veteran batter for the last time in action in this 50-over format. However, Kane Williamson won the toss and asked Australia to bat first.

Aaron Finch came out to open the innings with Josh Inglis. But, New Zealand players came up with a great gesture to show their respect for the Australian skipper. The video went viral as Cricket Australia also shared the video on their Twitter account.

Aaron Finch scored only five runs in his last ODI inning against New Zealand

Speaking of the video, New Zealand players gave a guard of honour to the Australian skipper. Aaron Finch was walking toward the crease and he acknowledged that gesture also. Then, the Kiwi captain, Kane Williamson came up to him. He shook hands and patted his back as a token of best of luck for his last inning.

However, Finch failed to score big once again. He lost his wicket to Tim Southee after scoring only five runs off 13 balls. Hence, Aaron Finch finished his ODI career with 146 matches for Australia. In 142 innings, he scored 5406 runs at an average of 38.89. In his career, he smashed 17 hundred and 30 fifties. However, he will continue to represent his country in the Test and T20I format. 

Speaking of the match, Australia lost their both openers early. They were struggling at 16 runs for two wickets in 5.4 overs. Then, Steve Smith and Marcus Labuschagne stitched a solid partnership. Steve Smith scored 105 runs off 131 balls, including 11 fours and one six. Along with him, Marcus scored 52 runs and Alex Carey remained not out on 42 runs. Cameron Green again played a cameo of 25* runs of 12 balls, including two sixes and two fours. Thus, Australia finished their innings at a total of 267 runs in 5 overs by losing five wickets.
