Despite hailing from South Africa, AB de Villers has a massive fan base in India. The veteran cricketer was a part of the Bangalore team in the Indian T20 League until the 2021 season, and he received a lot of love from Indian fans. Not many foreign cricketers have garnered such a huge fan base in India.

India took on South Africa in their 20-20 World Cup 2022 clash on Sunday at the Perth Stadium. The game was low-scoring, but both teams displayed excellent play. Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers was also ecstatic while cheering for his team.

During the game, De Villiers went live on his YouTube channel and hilariously apologised to his Indian fans for supporting South Africa. “Please don’t get angry with me my Indian fans, I’m still South African. Even though a of lot of me is Indian,” he said.

As for the game, it turned out to be a low-scoring thriller as the game went down to the wire. India won the toss and decided to bat first. However, this did not work too well for them as they kept losing wickets in the game. Suryakumar Yadav was the only saving grace for the Men in Blue. He continued his form from the last match and scored another half-century to help India to a total of 133/9.

The bowlers gave India a strong start in defence, taking three wickets in the powerplay and allowing only 24 runs. A partnership between Aiden Markram (52 runs in 41 balls) and David Miller then got South Africa back in the game. Each scored a crucial half-century to help their team win.

Despite India’s valiant efforts to stop him from scoring runs, Miller scored 59 runs in 46 balls and remained unbeaten until the end. Lungi Ngidi was awarded the Player of the Match for his excellent four-wicket haul to keep India at bay in the first innings of the game.
