Pakistan mystery spinner, Abrar Ahmed has taken England by the horns. In the ongoing second Test in Multan, he has taken seven wickets. In the midst of him troubling the England batters, he pulled off a Shane Warne against Joe Root. Apparently, in the 25th over of the innings, Abrar bowled a delivery close to the leg stump. Notably, the ball spun toward the off-stump.

Root couldn’t handle the spin and was hit on the back pad. However, the on-field umpire Aleem Dar gave it not out. The home team decided to review the decision. In the replays, it was clearly visible that the ball was hitting the stumps and Root didn’t play it at all. The decision was reversed and the reaction from the players was priceless.

Abrar Ahmed is making records on his debut as we speak

The mystery spinner is smashing records on the first day of his Test career. He became the 13th Pakistani to take a five-wicket haul on debut.

The first player to do it was Arif Butt, way back in 1964 against Australia in Melbourne. Notably, he opened the batting for Pakistan in the game. After him, Mohammad Nazir did it in 1969 against New Zealand in Karachi.

After this, they had to wait till 1996 to see a bowler picking a fifer on debut for them. Shahid Nazir picked a fifer against Zimbabwe in Sheikhpura that year. After him, the likes of Mohammad Zahid, Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Sami, Yasir Arafat, Wahab Riaz, Tanvir Ahmed, Bilal Asif, and Nauman Ali have done the same.

Now, he has a rare record of picking a seven-wicket haul on debut. Ahmed is the third Pakistani after Mohammad Zahid and Mohammad Nazir to do so on debut. However, the fans would be hoping to see him pick all 10 wickets in the innings. Only Jim Laker, Anil Kumble, and Ajaz Patel have done this so far.
