On 13 December 2022, the 12th edition of the Big Bash League began in Canberra. Sydney Thunder took on Melbourne Stars in the opening fixture. In the last season, Sydney Thunder lost in the play-off while Melbourne Stars finished in the seventh position after the group stage.

Speaking of the match, Sydney Thunder won the game in the last ball while chasing 123 runs. However, the former Australia cricketer, Brad Hodge was seen in the match as a commentator. But, he was seen with some crazy dance moves while commenting during the tournament opener. Fans found it very funny and they made the video viral all over the internet.

Brad Hodge played 46 matches across all three formats for Australia

Speaking of the video, Brad Hodge was seen doing ‘The Worm’ dance moves in the commentary box. Seeing that, fans along with his partner commentator were surprised. However, he played 46 matches across all three formats for Australia. In those matches, he scored 1261 runs.

Speaking of the first match of BBL 2022-23, Sydney Thunder won the toss and opted to bowl first. While batting first, Melbourne Stars scored 122 runs for eight wickets. Nick Larkin was the highest scorer with 25 runs off 26 balls, including one four. For Sydney Thunder, Gurinder Sandhu, Daniel Sams, and Fazalhaq Farooqi took two wickets each. 

In reply, Sydney Thunder won the match on the last ball by one wicket. Nathan Coulter-Nile took three wickets for 19 runs in four overs. Along with him, other bowlers also performed well but their fight went in vain. In the last over, two wickets fell on the first two deliveries. But, then, Gurinder Sandhu hit a six to seal the match for his team. Thus, Sydney Thunder made a winning start to the tournament. On the other hand, Melbourne Stars failed to do so. Gurinder Sandhu won the player of the match award for scoring 20* runs off 16 balls while taking two wickets for 23 runs.
