The ongoing SA20 2023 has already created a buzz in its first season. Last year, Cricket South Africa decided to start the league to increase their annual income. All six franchises were acquired by the owners of teams from the Indian T20 League. Meanwhile, in the ongoing inaugural season of the tournament, a fan tried to catch the ball that was deposited in the stands.

The incident happened during the sixth game of the tournament between Sunrisers Eastern Cape Town and Pretoria Capitals. In the 17th over of the SEC’s innings, Marco Jansen hit a six between long-on and deep midwicket. As the ball reached the stands, a fan tried to catch the ball. However, he failed miserably as he failed to catch the White Kookaburra and he lost his balance, resulting in a loss in his beer as well.

Talking about the game, the home team, Sunrisers won the toss and elected to field first. It was a mixed decision for the Orange Army as they picked two wickets for 47 runs but only 4.3 overs. At this stage, Phil Salt and Thenius de Bruyn stitched a partnership of 111 runs for the third wicket. The latter got out after scoring 42 off 23 balls including two fours and four sixes.

On the other hand, Salt was looking set to score the first hundred in the history of the tournament with 5.4 overs left in the innings. However, on the third ball of the 15th over, the England international was trapped lbw by Sisanda Magala. Salt and Bruyn’s innings helped the team reach 216/6. Apart from the duo, Jimmy Neesham (18), and Shane Dadswell (20) played important cameos for the team.

In reply, the Eastern Capes had a poor start as they lost two wickets for 15 runs. JJ Smuts and Aiden Markram stitched a partnership of 67 runs. After the duo’s wickets fell, they lost seven wickets for 119 runs which threw the team out of the game. The likes of Marco Jansen and Brydon Carse took the team to 179/7 with the team losing the game by 37 runs.
