Sri Lanka managed to win their sixth Asia Cup in their history on 11 September 2022 by defeating Pakistan. Both teams locked horns in Dubai International stadium with the hope to win this prestigious tournament. But, Sri Lanka came out victorious by 23 runs over Pakistan. However, with this win, they defeated twice the Men in Green in this tournament. Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Wanindu Hasaranga were the star players for their country. 

Their contributions were instrumental in helping Sri Lanka to win this tournament. However, after the match, a surprising incident occurred. Former Indian batter, Gautam Gambhir was seen posing with the Sri Lankan national flag in front of their crowd. The Sri Lankan crowd loved it as they erupted. Gautam Gambhir congratulated Sri Lanka on their Asia Cup victory in UAE

Speaking of the video, Gautam Gambhir shared the same on his Twitter account. In the caption, he wrote: “Superstar team…Truly deserving!!#CongratsSriLanka.” Ahead of the 20-20 World Cup, this could be a huge boost for this Sri Lankan team. However, they are yet to get qualified for the tournament as they are going to play the qualifiers.

Gautam Gambhir was present in UAE for doing his job as a commentator and TV representative. Hence, he watched the whole journey of this Sri Lankan team in this year’s Asia Cup.

Speaking of the match, Babar Azam won the toss and he asked Sri Lanka to bat first. While batting first, Sri Lanka were struggling at 58/5. But, Bhanuka Rajapaksa’s 71* runs ensured that his team finished at 170 runs by losing six wickets in 20 overs. Hasaranga also scored 36 runs off 21 balls with the bat. But, he came into action again with the ball. He grabbed three wickets by conceding 27 runs in four overs. Pakistan got bundled out for 147 runs in 20 overs. Bhanuka Rajapaksa won the player of the match award. However, Hasaranga won the player of the tournament by scoring 66 runs and grabbing nine wickets.
