Jos Buttler showed class and maturity but others need to step up: David Miller

Meanwhile, in the game between the Royals and the Capitals, the PR needed to either win or didn’t let NRR dip too badly. After winning the toss, the Pink Brigade, Paarl elected to bowl first. The decision proved wrong as Phil Salt and Kusal Mendis put together 69 runs for the first wicket in just 5.2 overs. The former got out after scoring 39 off just 21 balls.

After this, Mendis (80), Colin Ingram (41), and James Neesham (22*) ensured that the PC reach 226/5. At this stage, the David Miller-led Royals needed to chase down the target or at least get to 163 runs to ensure semifinal qualification. Buttler (70) showed some application while others failed to capitalize on the start. They lost seven wickets for 115 runs. At this point, it looked like Durban Super Giants might make it to the semis. However, the tailenders of the Royals ensured that the team reaches 167/9, losing the game by 59.

However, as they breached the 163-run mark, they have now reached the semis.

“We wanted to go out and win the game but got into a sticky situation so reassessed. They batted really well but there are areas we have to chat about… not a great game for us in all departments but we’re in the semi-finals. We’ve got matchwinners all the way through, Jos showed class and maturity, but we have to come together and put a big performance in tomorrow. It’ll be different conditions, a new game, we’ll be up for it,” David Miller said in the post-match presentation.
