Australia and South Africa are currently playing the second game of the three-match Test series. Also known as the Boxing Day Test, the Proteas are trailing by 0-1 in the series. Meanwhile, in the ongoing game, the home side won the toss and decided to field first. They have complemented their decision with good bowling and timely strikes upfront. Also, Marnus Labuschangne has displayed good fielding skills.

After running out Dean Elgar early in the day, Australia’s number three batter took a sensational catch to get rid of Khaya Zondo. The incident happened in the 29th over of the innings. Mitchell Starc bowled a fullish length way outside off stump. Zondo tried to play the cover drive on the up. However, the right-hander failed to get the timing right and keep the ball down.

Both instances proved to be the reasons for his demise as Marnus Labuschagne, stationed at mid-off take a diving catch leaping forward. This was the fifth wicket to fall for the Temba Bavuma-led side and the scorecard read 67/5 at the time.

Talking further about the game, the likes of Marco Jansen and wicketkeeper batter, Kyle Verreynne has stitched a partnership of 92 runs. At the time of writing, both batters are batting 46 and will be looking to take the team to a competitive total. In the last game, they were bowled out for 150-odd runs in the first innings.

This proved vital as the Aussies took a 66-run lead in the game. Even though South Africa picked four wickets in the second innings, they had only 34 runs to defend. Now, for them to remain in contention for the World Test Championship 2021-23 final, they need to win this game and the series too. After this series, South Africa will host West Indies which will be their last Test series of the WTC cycle. On the other hand, the Aussies would look forward to winning the game, which is touted as a tribute to Late Shane Warne.
