Former India skipper MS Dhoni won’t be part of the Indian team in any capacity for the first time in the history of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. From 2007 to 2016, he led the Men In Blue with the team lifting the trophy in 2007 and playing the final and semifinal in 2014 and 2016 respectively. Last year, he was the Mentor of the group. However, the team could do well as they failed to qualify for the semis.

Meanwhile, the 2007 winners will start their campaign with a ‘must-win’ game against Pakistan on October 23 in Melbourne. Ahead of the game, the Ranchi player was interacting with the fans. In the middle of it, the moderator was heard saying “So close to the World Cup, if I don’t ask you a World Cup question, they are gonna lynch me.”. In reply, the three-time World Championship winner said “I’m not playing the World Cup… The team has already left,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Rohit Sharma-led side isn’t going into the tournament as favorites. Apparently, the team has been facing death-bowling issues since the Men’s Asia Cup 2022 last month. However, in the warm-up game against Australia, bowlers including Mohammed Shami took regular wickets to snatch victory out of the jaws of defeat. The team’s next warm-up game against New Zealand was washed out due to persistent rain.

Notably, the same problem is clouding the ‘Mother of all Rivals’ game between India and Pakistan. According to the Melbourne Weather Forcast, it will rain heavily during the match-time. Also, the local authorities have already issued a flood warning in a lot of suburban areas of the city. On the other hand, the fans especially the ones who bought tickets will be hoping for the rain gods to show some mercy on the day.
